Lanzarote has its fair share of Bank Holidays and Special Events.

Carnival Islands

Carnaval brings two weeks of music, dancing, noise, parades, craziness and energy, which on Lanzarote is held mainly on the waterside promenades of Arrecife and Puerto del Carman. It ends on Ash Wednesday with the zany ceremony of the Burial of the Sardine. For this farcical finale, black clad mourners so as a tiny coffin containing the sardine is buried on the seashore.

2nd La Candelaria (Candlemas)

Carnaval two weeks, (dates vary each year): especially exuberant in Arrecife.

19th March San Jose (St Joseph’s Day) Spains Fathers Day

Pascua (Easter) Thu, Fri, Sun of Easter Week, and following Mon Easter; look out for big events all over the islands during Easter Weak.

20th  April Easter Sunday .

Pascua (Easter), Jueves Santo Thu 17th, Viernes Santo Fri 18th, Sun of Easter Week, and following Mon 21st Lunes de Pascua( not in Lanzarote); look out for big events all over the islands during Easter Weak.

1st  Dia del Trabajador (Labour Day)
 
30th Canarian Day

June

24th  Fiesta de San Juan celebrating the midsummer, Haria, Lanzarote.

Corpus Christi: Arrecife, Lanzarote. Patterns of coloured sand are used to decorate the ground.

15th Asuncion (Assumption)

Fiestas del Carmen (two weeks from 1 Aug): Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote. On the last Saturday fishing boats put out to sea with charmingly decorated effigies of the saint aboard.
Fiesta de San Gines (whole month): everywhere, but especially Arrecife. Processions, parades and traditional dancing in the streets.

September

8th  Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Teguise

15th  Virgen de los Volcanes general pilgrimage (romeria) to Mancha Blanca, Lanzarote. The highlight is a reenactment of the Virgin stopping the lava flow.

12th Hispanidad (Columbus Day)

November

1st Todos los Santos (All Saints’ Day)

December

6th Dia de la Constitucion (Constitution Day)
8th Immaculada Conception (Immaculate Conception)
25th Navidad (Christmas)

Christmas nativity plays and processions take place all over the island.
